gardenfarmart show

Only 6 weeks into school and we have our first school wide art show! With the help of some very dedicated parents, we were able to mount and display all of the art work for the Annual BHM Harvest Dinner! Definitely a feast for the eyes!!!

Berry Boards

The Fifth graders and I finally figured out how to make the art room--smoosh berries! we pressed blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and elderberries onto paper to make a wonderful background for our ink drawings.

Natural Textures

Fourth Graders used a variety of seeds, leaves, petals, kernels and beans to design Texture Tiles. Finding contour lines in the garden helped create spaces and shapes to fill with treasures from the garden. The fourth graders learned about contrast--the challenge was to see how texture, shapes and colors can create contrast when glued next to one another.

This is one of those few times that you will hear me saying "use more glue!"

Autumn Observational Drawings

Our second and third graders were able to study a variety of fall vegetables, flowers and grasses. We added color using Watercolor pencils. The students loved watching the magic of the colors blending.

First Grade Texture Weaving

After the students rolled Indian corn and printed with corn husks and Queen Anne's Lace, we decided to take it the next level and weave!

Kinders

Printmaking with Indian Corn and Apples
Since I have two Kinder classes, I mix the process up a little to see what works best... we painted the dried husks and printed for the first layer. We then used apples to print and then rolled the dry corn in paint and rolled onto the paper. Lots of layering and color!

GardenFarmArt

WOW. The first 5 weeks in the art room have been so productive! All of our BHM students have been looking at "resources" from the local gardens and farms and incorporating them into creative expression and problem solving.

At the beginning of the school year "Mrs. G" (Adelaida G.) brought in SO many wonderful treasures for us to use. We looked, touched, smelled and listened to these objects. Too often we see a flower or vegetable at the end of its life cycle and dismiss it as trash or compost-bound. Not true! These items became our primary resource from which we were inspired. We used them to paint, to print, to assemble, to dye, to study....

My intention was to record the process and post more regularly. As the Harvest Dinner approaches, I am realizing that I need to get some of the photos uploaded. Apologies for the heavy post. Next week I will follow up with the exhibition of the finished work from our Harvest Dinner/Open House. This is when we get TO TASTE!
